"The trips are terrific! Especially when accompanied by the very scientists whom Leakey has funded over the years. I have found them to be truly generous in sharing information with those of us who are mere laymen."

“Man is full of curiosity about how and why
he came to be…”
◊ Louis S.B. Leakey

What would you ask a world-renowned scientist if you had the opportunity?

The Leakey Foundation was established in 1968 by individuals just like you… adventurous, intellectually curious scientific patrons. They sought an understanding of humankind’s origins and place in the order of things. And they wanted to ensure that scientists were able to continue seeking answers to age-old questions.

When did our ancestors acquire language abilities? Why do we, alone among all mammals, walk upright? Did climate change stimulate human evolution? Why did art appear so abruptly about 40,000 years ago?

The Leakey Fellows experience offers close proximity to the scientists at the heart of human origins work. As a Fellow, you will learn first of new discoveries; have access to exclusive events; and be offered the opportunity to build friendships with established scientists, grantees, Leakey Foundation Trustees and other Leakey Fellows. With a minimum gift of $1,000 per year, Fellows receive unique opportunities to expand their knowledge in an intellectual and congenial atmosphere, while actively supporting discovery, both in the field and in the auditorium.

Leakey Fellows are scientific patrons who share both an interest in understanding man’s past and a concern for our rapidly evolving future. While other levels of contribution are encouraged, Fellows provide the Foundation with an indispensable combination of financial resources and a circle of friends, making possible vital research and exciting new programs.

We cordially extend an invitation to become a Leakey Fellow, and to help The Leakey Foundation continue building its legacy. Fellows enjoy the following benefits:
