Join us in Exploration!
The Leakey Foundation began as a small group of friends gathered in a living room during one of Dr. Leakey's periodic speaking tours to the US when he often discussed his plans for future fieldwork. Often these enthusiasts were inspired to write small checks in support of one or two promising investigations - led by young scientists like Jane Goodall, Don Johanson, and Dian Fossey - thereby making possible many of the seminal studies that form the foundation of human origins research. Today, the members of The Leakey Foundation continue to send prominent scientists into the field. Because of the efforts of its expanding membership, the Foundation was able to fund 82 scientists in 27 countries, with an average grant amount of $11,500. In return for their active support, members enjoy a front row seat to the unfolding story of our human origins, receiving reports from the field and meeting scientists firsthand.
